Brigadeiro is the most popular sweet in Brazil, it started in 1945 with a political campaign….. Let me tell you how it began!
In 1945, shortly after World War II , Brazil was having an electoral campaign for a new President. The candidate was Eduardo Gomes, whose military rank was Brigadeiro. He was very popular amongst women for being good looking and single, so the campaign slogan was “ Vote for Brigadeiro, he is handsome and single”.
To promote his campaign, parties were organised to raise funds and to give more visibility to the candidate. In these parties they decided to prepare a sweet to be sold to the public, and this sweet was ‘The Brigadeiro’.
At the time, milk and sugar were hard to find, so they decided to use condensed milk, chocolate and butter to make the chocolate. ”Brigadeiro” was born.
Brigadeiro Gourmet is a recipe using top quality ingredients; replacing standard chocolate powder with high-quality couverture chocolate, adding 100% pure cocoa powder, and supplementing the traditional ingredients with preservative free natural alternatives.
The new variation was naturally a hit in Brazil, however it also gained a great deal of love internationally! Hearts were melted across the globe as the treat hit the shores of Canada, America, and Europe…now Australia’s turn has come.
I’m on a similar journey to Juliana, and the more I learn and love this traditional treat, the more i find myself creating and learning new things that are not only related to brigadeiro, but chocolate as a whole.
This passion is what lead me to create Sweet Stone Chocolate, and I cannot wait to continue to share my ideas, thoughts, tips and journey with you all.
